Dr. NANCY COOGAN
Dr. Nancy Coogan has served as the superintendent of the Tukwila School District since summer 2013. She is thrilled and humbled to be part of the Tukwila community!
Dr. Coogan was previously Executive Director of the Central Region of Seattle Public Schools. In this role she oversaw all aspects of K-12 schools, serving 10,500 students in Seattle’s most impacted and diverse neighborhoods. Dr. Coogan’s background includes math, science, and special-education teaching at the middle level and building-level leadership in Everett and Mukilteo middle schools. As a principal, she provided district-wide leadership in formative assessment and standards-based grading. She taught principalship classes for four years as an adjunct faculty member at City University.
In her community, she is a member of the Seattle University Youth Advisory Board, a trainer/facilitator in cultural competency in school settings throughout Seattle, and a member of the Professional Education Advisory Boards of both SPU and City University. Nancy has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a Special Education endorsement. Her doctorate in Educational Leadership is from Washington State University.
