Cascade View Elementary has won the City of Tukwila’s top award for waste reduction, recycling and composting! Mayor Ekberg presented the award to Elizabeth Florez and Ivan Kistol from Cascade View Elementary for their work in launching the first school composting program in Tukwila. Cascade View participated in a pilot program composting food scraps such as banana peels, starting in January of 2017. Composting is a new, free service to schools as part of the City’s solid waste contract. Great job!!! The City provides assistance with setting up the program, interior containers, signs and outside carts with weekly service. All food scraps are sent to our local composting facility, Cedar Grove Composting, and in just six weeks turned into compost for local landscapes.
