(Tukwila, WA) — Tukwila School District Superintendent Dr. Nancy Coogan has resigned her position with the Tukwila School District to attend to family matters.  The Tukwila School Board is very grateful to Dr. Coogan for her four years of service to the District and to the greater Tukwila community.

The Board has appointed Dr. Judith Berry, Deputy Superintendent, as Interim Superintendent to provide a continuum of leadership for our school community.  Dr. Berry will continue to work on District projects that began under Dr. Coogan’s leadership.

The District is providing a seamless transition of district administration for students, teachers, staff and families as the new school year begins September 5.  Tukwila Schools will begin the 2017-18 school year with a stable, deficit-free budget and a better-than-expected early enrollment forecast of nearly 2,900 students.

About 2,900 students are enrolled in five schools located within the Tukwila School District in southwest King County.  The average student-teacher ratio is 1:25. Students represent many cultures and ethnic groups and speak more than 80 world languages. About 40 percent of students qualify for English Language Learner services. About 80 percent of students are eligible for free/reduced school meals. A staff of about 400 serve our students.
